Daycare Canada Online
Privacy Policy
Effective October 26, 2026
Daycare Canada Online ("we", "us") runs DaycareCanada.com, a directory that helps parents find child care in Canada. We're a small, independent business based in British Columbia. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act.
Information we collect
When you search. You don't need an account to search. If you search by postal code or address, we use it to find nearby providers and keep anonymous search statistics (for example, which cities are searched most).
When you send an enquiry to a provider. We collect your name, email address, phone number (optional) and your message. We send this to the provider you chose and keep a copy so the provider can reply through the site and so we can deal with abuse.
When you contact us. We collect your name, email address and message so we can reply.
When a provider creates a listing. We collect the contact person's name, email, phone number, login details, and the program information and photos the provider chooses to publish. Program details (name, address, phone, description, photos, hours, spaces) are shown publicly on the listing; the provider's email address is not.
Payments. Enhanced listings are paid by PayPal or Interac e-Transfer. Card and bank details are handled by PayPal or your bank; we never see or store them. We keep a record of the payment (amount, date, method) for our accounts and taxes.
Technical information. Like most websites, our servers record basic information such as your IP address, browser type and pages visited, and we record sign-in attempts to provider accounts to protect them.
Cookies and third-party services
- Essential cookies keep you signed in and make forms work.
- Google Analytics helps us understand how the site is used (pages visited, general location, device type). See how Google uses data. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on.
- Google AdSense shows ads on some public pages. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can turn off personalized ads in Google's ad settings.
- Cloudflare Turnstile checks that forms are sent by people, not robots.
- OpenStreetMap supplies the map images; your browser loads them directly from OpenStreetMap's servers.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site still works for searching, though signing in needs cookies.
How we use your information
- To show listings and help you contact providers.
- To pass your enquiry to the provider you chose.
- To reply to your questions and support provider accounts.
- To process listing payments and keep financial records.
- To keep the site secure, prevent spam and fix problems.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it.
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't send marketing email unless you ask for it.
Who we share it with
- The provider you contact, who receives your enquiry.
- Service providers that help us run the site: hosting (Microsoft Azure), email delivery, PayPal, Google (Analytics and AdSense) and Cloudflare. Some of them may process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local laws.
- When the law requires it, or to protect the safety of children, users or the public.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries and contact messages for 2 years, provider account information while the listing is active and for 2 years after it closes, and payment records as long as tax law requires (currently 6 years). After that we delete or anonymize it.
Keeping it secure
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), restrict access to our systems, and keep our database on a secured server in British Columbia. No system is perfectly secure, so please contact us if you think your account has been misused.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (we may need to keep some records, such as payments, by law). Providers can update or close their listing at any time by signing in. To make a request, contact us using the details below; we'll reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the BC Information and Privacy Commissioner.
Children
This site is meant for parents and child care providers. We don't knowingly collect information from children, and we ask that enquiries not include children's personal details beyond what's needed (for example, age and start date).
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
